Which business copiers are right for your business?

There are so many different types of business copiers available today, the choice for your office or your home office can feel a bit overwhelming. You can choose between digital or analogue copiers, and once you've narrowed that down you can choose between copiers that just copy and print and business copiers that perform a number of functions. Then there's the choice between purchasing outright, purchasing on credit or leasing a copier instead. Or you could opt to purchase a used business copier or a refurbished business copier. The choices really are amazing, and an important first step is deciding how you use business copiers and how heavily you use them.

You need to look at your office and how it uses photocopiers. Today's copiers rarely just copy. They're usually also used as a direct printer along with being used as a copier. While it is possible to purchase one or the other rather than a combination machine, a copier that can also be used for direct print jobs is usually the best option. It saves you from having to purchase two different expensive pieces of equipment which is a benefit especially in a small business.

Choosing between colour and black and white business copiers is usually an easy decision. If your office has no need for colour copies, a black and white copier is the best option, especially if you're going to choose a laser copier. Laser copiers already cost between £600 and £2000, and if you choose a colour copier it's going to cost much more. If you only very rarely need to use colour, a small inkjet printer that costs a couple of hundred pounds just for that purpose might be a good investment. If you do need colour copies on a regular basis, then an all-in-one colour machine is probably the best option. Laser copiers cost more to purchase but toner cartridges last over several thousand copies. Inkjet copiers are cheap but the ink is very expensive. For most businesses a laser copier is the clear choice.

Features of business copiers

What kinds of features should you look for in business copiers? You can choose business copiers that do nothing but make copies and print them out. These can be also used as direct printers, and most businesses also use them as this. There should also be a function to reduce the size of a page that's being copied or to expand it. This would allow you to scan a document and print it out on a larger piece of paper than standard. The copier would have a standard paper drawer as well as an oversized drawer.

You can find business copiers that are all-in-one machines that also fax and do other functions, which can save space in a small office. Look for copiers that offer auto feed for convenience, so a person doesn't have to constantly feed papers into the machine. And look for a machine that can store more than an inch of paper at a time, so that a lot of paper can be loaded and a user can walk away while it's making copies.
