Sales Training Prices

Sales people can benefit from training in myriad ways. As well as providing a boost to confidence and knowledge it can also improve the cooperation and communication within teams, increasing efficiency as well as revenue. It also proves to your sales people that you value their ongoing development and that you’re prepared to invest in their improving skills, all of which can do wonders for morale.

When it comes to choosing the right training course though, this return on investment can be hard to quantify. There’s no way of knowing for sure in advance of the training how much extra revenue will result from your sales team’s development.

It’s therefore sensible to get an idea of what’s available at what price before you gather quotes and make a decision. This guide to sales training prices will take you through the main options to help you work out your budget.

Prices for Open Sales Training Courses

Open courses are held at the course provider’s training centre – most are found in major cities.

Courses are suitable for one or more delegates, last from 1 to 3 days in duration and comprise elements of practical exercises, demonstrations and group-work.

The most basic courses are appointment making courses. These one day courses give sales people skills in generating appointments from cold or prospect calling. (Tack International runs a one day Appointment Making course for £395 + VAT)

Introductions to sales for non-sales staff. These courses introduce customer services staff to sales techniques, up-selling, cross-selling etc. They usually last a day and cost around £500 per person (see for example ‘Sales for Non-Salespeople’ from Tack International which costs £445 + VAT).

A comprehensive course for sales people which covers the full sales process from planning through to account development will normally last two or three days and cost around £1,000 per person. (See ‘Fundamentals of Selling’ from Hemsley Fraser which lasts 2 days and costs £969 + VAT).

There are various specialised courses on offer to cover different aspects of sales. Courses for Account Managers, Sales Team Managers or in Negotiation Sales are all available and cost around £500 + VAT per person per day. These courses also normally last 2 or 3 days.

When comparing the prices of different open courses make sure you take into account the course content as some courses pack more in than others. The number of delegates on each course is also important – your staff will get more personal attention, and therefore be more likely to absorb the information, the smaller the class size.

Prices for Tailored Sales Training Courses

The other main option is to hire a professional trainer to visit your company and train your staff in-house. The benefits of this approach are that the training can be tailored to match exactly your company’s and your staff’s requirements. Individual goals can be set and worked towards in the training and staff won’t have to travel miles out of their way to attend.

Tailored training courses don’t have fixed price structures. Rather quotes are worked out on an individual basis. As a guideline though, you can expect to pay £500 + VAT per person per day for quality training (minimum group size is usually four people). The per person price may drop the more people you send on the course so do investigate this economy of scale (but remember that large group sizes can be counter-productive).

Again, make sure the content of the course includes everything you want it to. Incidental costs like the trainer’s expenses may be included so do check the quote carefully.

One-to-One Sales Training

Sometimes a single individual will need a course tailored to their needs e.g. a company director may need coaching in selling at board level or in key account management. One to one training solutions are available from many suppliers on a bespoke basis. Again prices vary but around £1,000 + VAT for a two day course for one person is typical.

All the prices we’ve given above are for helping the buyer of sales training work out a budget only. The prices we’ve quoted from specific training companies are correct at the time of publishing but are obviously subject to change.

We recommend gathering as many quotes as possible from different training providers to find the right combination of course content, duration, price and location.
