Corporate videos can fulfil a diverse range of functions in the modern business environment. They add dynamism to content, can be used to convey complex ideas concisely, add a personal touch to corporate communications or even be used as a direct sales tool.

Types of corporate video include:

  • Company overview
  • Product demonstrations
  • Promotional video
  • Training videos
  • Staff profiles for company website
  • Video tour of a premises
  • Internal communication videos from CEO or directors
  • Information videos for employees or customers

Hiring a professional video production company can make the process of producing corporate videos straightforward and stress free. But before you rush out to buy that director’s chair, borrow a megaphone and commission your very own corporate video extravaganza it’s a good idea to acquaint yourself with the rough costs and potential pitfalls.

Video Production Prices

The costs of corporate video production vary greatly depending on the scale and complexities of the particular project and a number of factors can cause the price to escalate quickly:

  • Conceptual – If your video contains a narrative then you’ll need a storyboard to outline all the shots required and to nail down the flow of the film. Any spoken or on screen text needs to be written and put in the form of a shooting script.
  • Equipment Hire – Camera, light and sound equipment hire is usually paid for by the day. Other equipment might include a camera dolly or even a crane or helicopter for aerial shots. The more impressive the shots, the more expensive it will be to produce them.
  • Location Hire – Most corporate filming is done on company premises but if you require shooting at an external location you’ll need to seek permission and even have to pay a fee. Location filming might also require the hire of catering and toilet facilities, specialist lights and generators.
  • Cast and Crew – The more equipment that’s required, the more crew will be needed to set it up and operate it. Actors and presenters will need to be hired by the day as well.
  • Post-Production – Editing, sound mixing, addition of visual effects and soundtrack all require expensive equipment and time. This process normally takes longer than the shooting phase of the project.
  • Delivery – If the video is to be put on DVD it’ll need to be mastered and duplicated. You might also want packaging designed and printed. If it’s for online use you’ll need the video converted to the appropriate size and filetype and checked for compatibility with various browsers.

When it comes to nailing down prices we suggest a guideline of around £1,000 per minute of finished film.

This is just a guideline though – a multi-location shoot with crowds of actors and a specially commissioned soundtrack will cost a lot more.

Some companies offer package deals for simple videos like interviews or premises tours. They tend to charge around £500 for a shoot of a couple of hours plus post-production work resulting in a film of around 60 seconds in length. A full day of such work will cost in excess of £1,000 producing a film of 2 minutes.

Simple animations of 1 or 2 minutes which explain a concept or service can be produced for around £500 at the lower end of the scale.

Corporate Video Production Pointers

When commissioning a bespoke corporate video here are some things to bear in mind:

  • Be prepared: The more detailed and precise your brief, the less time the production company will have to spend (and charge you for) in planning.
  • Be flexible: It can be hard for a non-filmmaker to understand the technical implications of certain types of shot or technique. Your big idea might take days to shoot and require very expensive equipment. Be prepared to sacrifice your more costly ideas for the greater good of the project.
  • Get involved: Why hire an actor to do the voiceover when one of your staff can do it? The same goes for actors in role play or training videos. If you’ve got talent in-house, don’t be scared to make use of it.
