At Approved Index we see a lot of internet searches for Asda Fuel Cards which we find rather puzzling. The fuel card market is a highly competitive one and it’s no surprise that all the different options and offers can lead to confusion. Fuel cards can save the average business a great deal over a long period so shopping around is wise but when it comes to Asda Fuel Cards, we’re afraid you’re barking up the wrong tree…
Asda Fuel Cards Don’t Exist?
That’s right: Asda does not run a fuel card scheme for businesses at present. It does use its bulk buying powers to offer highly competitive prices at its no-frills, unmanned superstore filling stations and it does offer 1p off per litre of fuel when you use an Asda Everday Credit Card, which is probably where the confusion has arisen. But no Asda fuel cards exist at present and we know of no plans to introduce them.
No Asda Fuel Cards; What About Other Supermarkets?
The fuelGenie fuel card is a business fuel card which can be used exclusively at Tesco and Morrisons filling stations nationwide. This enables holders to take advantage of the cheaper fuel prices that supermarkets offer over an extensive network of filling stations.
The fuelGenie card covers petrol, diesel, LPG and oil, provides 24/7 online account management, there are no standing charges and a single monthly VAT approved invoice which allows 12 interest free days for payment.
The fuelGenie card is therefore comparable with other retail fuel cards. The only drawbacks are the short time allowed for payment and the inaccessibility of some garage forecourts for HGVs and LGVs.
The Sainsbury’s Fuelcard is another supermarket fuel card for businesses and one which operates on much the same terms as the fuelGenie but with a few important differences. On one hand you get up to 45 days interest free credit and you can earn Nectar points on fuel purchases. On the other hand there are only 258 Sainsbury’s filling stations nationwide at present. Compare that with approximately 1,000 stations available to fuelGenie customers.
Where are the Asda Fuel Cards?
That’s an excellent question. The business fuel card market is a huge one and you’d think Asda would want to at least dip a toe in the water. However we don’t see any plans for the introduction of Asda fuel cards at present.
