The first thing a personnel human resource management department or one person who typically handles HR tasks can do is plan a really in-depth orientation for new hires. There are very few people who are hired for a job who actually look forward to the orientation. It's typically anywhere from a day to two weeks sitting at a desk and learning about the company in which the new employee gets paid but doesn't really have to do work. Still, many people dislike this because it's boring and often feels like it insults people's intelligence because of the simplistic method in which it's all introduced.

A company that wants good personnel human resource management should really take into consideration what it would be like to be on the other side of the desk. Instead of talking down to employees, a good HR person should challenge them and expect them to understand. Of course, there are situations where this is impossible. Often during the initial orientation the employee and HR person will go over important paperwork and policies. These need to be explained as carefully as possible so the employee fully understands everything. Though rules and policies are usually written in a business handbook, stressing them during an orientation can help prevent people from coming back with the excuse that they didn't read that information.

Tricks to good personnel human resource management

One thing that corporations with large HR departments do very well typically is making employees feel welcome right away. Not every corporation does this, but many do and typically the best do. While some companies do group orientations out of necessity because it simply takes less time and fewer resources that way, a company that doesn't do this but opts for a personal and one-on-one approach will probably show greater employee satisfaction. That gives employees a sense that they are being listened to and everything isn't just mob rule.

Something else that HR people can do is actually just set aside time for listening during the orientation. Rather than asking the new employee if he or she has any questions and rushing through it on to something else, ask and stop to listen to make them really aware that you're willing to do so. Too often questions and concerns are just given lip service in the beginning and when new hires do have questions they're not sure where to go because they feel like HR really doesn't welcome the questions. Treat employees with respect and allow them time to ask questions and express their concerns for the personnel human resource management success.
