Vehicle Tracking Price Guide

There are options of both leasing and purchasing vehicle tracking systems. Depending on the size of your fleet, most people choose to lease a system as it allows more flexibility in terms of the type of tracker, the number of vehicle you wish to track, and the length of time you wish to track for. Options that are available vary between simple systems of track and manage, to track, communicate and manage, and also systems that allow you to track, navigate, communicate and manage.
You can also opt for mobile data devices that allow two-way texting. One model of this is Messaging and Navigation, which costs from 40p a day, including installation, hardware, training and warranty. This is an integrated device with both messaging and navigation that allows real time tracking, routing, job dispatch and messaging from a remote source. The benefits of using this model are that it facilitates efficient job allocation for both planned and reactive jobs, decreases paper work, and reduces fuel costs through more efficient routing.
Another option is Mobile Messaging with Driver ID, and for 20p a day includes the cost of installation, mobile messaging hardware, training and a warranty. This option allows you to dispatch job details, directions or messages using either an existing call management system or an online solution. Mobile Messaging allows communication with one or all of your fleet.
A different option is a vehicle telematics system. A telematics system typically consists of mobile Vehicle Systems and a stationary Fleet Communication System, allowing an exchange of information between a vehicle and a central authority. This allows you to monitor a vehicle's status; in other words, what it is doing and what it is happening. For example, you can be notified of when a rear door is opened. This option is less expensive, and you can expect to pay approximately 10p per day per vehicle.
For pay-as-you-track options, there is usually a minimum contract to which you must sign up to, and there will be an extra cost for the hardware. One of the benefits of purchasing a pay-as-you-track service is that there will usually be a full warranty for life and an ongoing customer support service available.
Online tracking systems can cost between 69p per day per vehicle for a contract of 3 years, and 79p per day per vehicle for 5 years. Prices vary depending upon whether you want a fleet monitor, fleet locator or live track. For a fleet monitor, it can cost between 49p and 59p per day per vehicle, and for a fleet locator is can cost between 59p and 69p per day per vehicle. For a live tracker, these costs can rise to between 69p and 79p per day per vehicle. Again, it costs less per vehicle per day if the contract is for an extended period of time.
n addition, you can choose to pay a monthly fee or an annual fee. This varies on the model, however as a rough guide, you can expect to pay around £9.99 a month, or £109.00 annually. If you choose to buy more than one navigation system, you may be able to receive a discount for multiple options. For a bundle of two, you can pay £16.99 monthly or £189.00 annually. If this increases to a bundle of three, you can pay around £21.99 monthly or £249.00 annually. This makes each navigation system cheaper when it is bought in a bundle.
If you decide to lease a tracking system, a de-installation cost will be incurred of approximately £60.00 + VAT.
Passive Trackers
Another option is passive trackers. These give an update at regular intervals of a vehicle's movements. With passive trackers, the cost per vehicle per day will vary depending upon how often you want to receive updates, and also how long your contract is for. The following costs are for contracts between 3 and 6 years. It costs between 70p and 90p per vehicle per day for an update every 10 minutes, and this cost increases the more often updates are received. If you want to receive information every 5 minutes, you can expect to pay between 75p and 95p per vehicle per day. For every 1 minute, the cost increases to between 80p and £1.00.
One final option that should be considered with the tracker that you purchase is a model with combined active and passive tracking abilities. This will cost around £200.00 to buy outright. A model of this price can obtained with financing for £140.00. A basic system can be leased for less than £15.00 a month, or basic system with data for around £30.00 a month.
Purchasing a Vehicle Tracking System
As a general rule of thumb, the hardware can cost from £200.00 to buy outright, and the installation cost can be an extra £100.00. Typically, the price of a satellite navigation system will be around £299.99, including installation. For the same system, and installation, plus a touch screen, it will cost £399.99.
Vehicle tracking software is usually available at no extra cost, and can be installed on as many computers as required.
