Data purchase: a guide

Data purchase: a guide to the process

Data purchase: a guideto the process can help you understand why companies purchase data and how it helps them expand their client and customer base. Data purchasing is the act of buying data from someone who has compiled it. This data is typically lists of names, addresses, phone numbers, SMS information, and email addresses. Why would anyone be interested in data purchase: a guide on how to do it? Because this information can help a business increase its bottom line.

Data purchase gives a company access to a list of potential customers. Where the data is purchased from will have a lot to do with how good the list is and how many customers a company might actually get from the data. So the company that offers a good data purchase is a big consideration about how valuable the data will be.

For example, here's a situation that shows you data purchase: a guide to the data's value. If a company that offers something like business telephone systems is interested in a data purchase, that company is going to want a list of names and addresses of people who are potentially interested in a business telephone system. That is the ideal type of data for that company. A company that sells something like horoscopes or psychic readings could very well benefit from a general data purchase because a certain percentage of those people might be interested. But they would do better to get a list of people who've already shown an interest in that type of product from another company. The same goes for the telephone company who would do well to make the data purchased from similar company that way the list of names would be people interested in business equipment or business telephone equipment.

How the data for data purchase is compiled

If you're wondering where all the data comes from, then you might be surprised to realise that every company tracks its customer base to some degree or another. If you've ever filled any form online then you've probably been faced with some sort of a privacy statement or privacy agreement. That disclaimer or privacy statement will usually say one of two things. Sometimes it says that the website never shares any of its information with an outside source. In other cases, the agreement will let you know that they do share information with other companies and you may be able to opt out of that if you choose. Companies that have an agreement like that and indicate they share their data with other companies are companies that offer data purchase or data rental.

When you give information like your name, home address, phone number and e-mail address to companies that share information with other companies, that information ends up on the data purchase list. Other companies can rent that list for one-time use or purchase it and use that information to contact you about their products or services. So as far as data purchase: a guide on the process, now you can see where the data comes from and where it goes.
