Xerox Photocopiers – The Originals
The name Xerox is so closely associated with photocopying that in the 50s and 60s the two were almost synonymous. Xerox photocopiers were the first photocopiers to hit the commercial market in 1949. Invented by patent attorney Chester Carlson in New York, the process of ‘Xerography’ – whereby an electrostatically charged drum imprints a copied image on paper using dry ink, or ‘toner’ – was named after the Greek for ‘dry writing’ and became the basis of the company’s own name.

Xerox Photocopier Range
The entry-level Xerox photocopier is the Phaser 3100MFP. This A4 only machine can print, scan, fax and copy at a speed of up to 20 pages per minute in black and white. It can carry 250 sheets of paper in its tray and has an automatic document feeder for up to 50 pages.
In the mid-range, for medium-sized offices the Xerox WorkCentre range of copiers can handle multiple paper sizes with speeds up to 30 pages per minute, print resolutions of up to 1200dpi, Duplex copying and printing and a hard drive for document storage. As with the Phaser range, colour and black and white models are available.
For professional quality, the high-end multi-function Xerox printers such as the Colour 550 or 700i have paper capacities of 5,000+ sheets, print speeds of up to 70 pages per minute, PANTONE colour matching and print quality comparable with offset litho. They can be fitted with various finishing modules and handle up to 300gsm paper.
