Sagepay Merchant Account

The Sagepay Merchant Account provides both a merchant account and a payment gateway, though customers are also able to use an existing merchant account through an acquiring bank. The primary benefits include:

  • A comprehensive all-in-one payment solution
  • Competitive pricing
  • No charges made until transactions have been settled
  • No need for a long-term contract.

As Sagepay provides merchant accounts for a huge range of organisations including small businesses and large enterprises; a special selling point of Sagepay is its flexibility. Whether you are looking to get a merchant account up and running quickly, or you are looking for a custom-built service for your business, Sagepay has a solution. It also provides comprehensive always available customer support.

Sage Page Payment Gateway (including MOTO)

For businesses that wish to take payments online , the Sage Page Payment Gateway has been designed to make online payments easy. Businesses can choose a hosted payment gateway option or they can integrate the Sagepay gateway into their own website.

There are several integration options. These include:

Form integration

This is the easiest and takes only minutes to set up. When a customer checks out from your shopping cart he or she is redirected to the Sage payment page so no card data is collected on your website which means that your PCI compliance requirements are simpler. The payment page is customisable so you can make it look and feel like your own site.

Server integration

This is available to merchants that have their own server and communicates with the Sage payment pages. Again you don’t collect any card details so you don’t need full PCI compliance. The advantage is you collect additional information regarding the transaction on your server. This gives you more flexibility regarding reporting and automating functions.

Server IFrame integration

This provides your customers with a more seamless checkout experience as you capture card details through a sage Pay IFrame in your checkout pages. The IFrame is customisable and it still means that your PCI compliance is simplified as you don’t collect card details on your own server. The advantage is that your customers stay on your website.

Direct integration

With this solution you collect card details on your own website and send them to Sagepay for authorisation and storage. By hosting and managing your own payment pages you can develop your own transaction functions and integrate payments with your back office functions. You must have PCI DSS and SSL certification for this.

Sagepay provides two cost models, the Business option and the Corporate Option which is available for businesses that process over 10,000 transactions a quarter. There are no set up fees for either option and there is no minimum term contract. Four months cancellation notice is required and MOTO payments are included.

The business option costs £15 a month and includes 1,000 free transactions a quarter; extra transactions cost £0.10 a transaction. Card processing charges are 1.99% for Visa and MasterCard payments, and £0.40 for debit cards.

For non 3D Secure processing and for processing non-standard cards the costs vary from 2.5% + 0.01% to 2.5% + 1.1%.

Online PayPal processing costs from 1.4% + £0.20 to 3.4% + £0.20 depending on volume.

The Corporate Option is individually priced and preferential business rates are offered.

For businesses that require just MOTO payment processing through a virtual terminal, the processing charges are the same but there is a choice of a £15 a month processing fee which includes 300 transactions or £25 a month which includes 1,000 transactions. For large businesses with over 5,000 MOTO transactions a month preferential pricing is offered.

Face to Face Payments

For face to face payments, Sagepay offer countertop, portable, contactless and POS integrated PDQ machines. The offered services are comprehensive and include the ability to accept fuel, gift, and loyalty cards.

For small businesses, standard credit cards processing costs 1.6%. Processing corporate cards costs 1.9% and debit cards cost £0.22 per transaction. The cost of hiring a PDQ machine is from £13 a month for up to four machines. Solutions for larger corporations are individually priced.
